A Stack of Colors

I noticed a set of ceramic drink coasters resting in a neat stack beneath the lower shelf of the coffee table. Walking over, I nudged the top coaster with both hands; it slid across the glazed surface beneath it with a satisfying, gritty swish. Each coaster had a different painted rim—one teal, one terracotta, and one pale mustard. Methodically, I shifted the top two aside and aligned them on the floor in a stepped pattern, creating a smooth three-tiered platform. Stepping up onto the first disc, I admired how the earthy shades complemented the deep grain of the wooden floorboards perfectly.
