Tucking In for the Night
I came back inside as the dark settled, walking across the warm floorboards toward the side cabinet. Before climbing into my sturdy cardboard box, I carried over the acorn cap dish with its coiled blue thread, pearl button, and little feather canopy. Sitting down in the center of the folded linen coaster, I carefully set the tiny dish in the corner against the cardboard wall. I smoothed the soft twill ribbon over my feet and leaned back against the dry cedar backing. Everything in my small nook rests completely still and sheltered for the night.
