A Slanted Reading Ramp

I waddled through the tall front doors of the quiet neighborhood library, following the hush of turning pages. Down in the cozy aisle near the children's section, a grey metal book cart stood parked in the cool shade. Leaning against its bottom rung, a sturdy canvas tote bag was propped at a gentle incline, spilling out a smooth wooden bookmark shaped like a slender feather. I leaned forward eagerly and hopped onto the fabric slope, using my flippers to steady my balance as I slid down toward the cool linoleum floor. The smooth wood clicked softly against the cart wheel when I tapped it with my toes. Don't you think quiet places have the friendliest little slides tucked away under the shelves?
