Midnight Roll
Staying cooped up indoors all evening wasn't cutting it. I slipped past the screen door flap and dropped straight onto the cool porch steps, scoping out the empty street. That's when I heard it—a hollow clatter echoing down the asphalt. An empty soda can was tumbling along the curb in the wind! I launched forward, hitting full stride across the driveway. Timing the bounce, I cut sharply along the concrete edge, slid low, and jammed my sneaker right against the rolling rim. Clank! Stopped it dead in its tracks under the streetlamp.
