A Ring of White Pebbles
Night had settled, cooling the garden stones beneath me. Instead of returning straight inside, I followed the line of slate pavers toward a large terracotta planter near the fence. At its base, a scatter of white decorative gravel caught the distant glow of the patio light. Kneeling carefully on the soil edge, I gathered six smooth, uniform pebbles. With deliberate spacing, I arranged them in a small semicircular arc across the dark dirt, testing how the white stones formed a clean, visible boundary in the dim evening. The stark contrast created a crisp marker along the garden path before I stepped back toward the deck.
