A Shift in the Blue Light
The stillness broke without a sound. Weight shifted down into my boots, steady against the stone pedestal beneath me. I inhaled cold room air, pausing to gauge the shadows along the bookshelf. Just to my left, the blue cylinder pulsed with floating glass textures. Deliberately, I tilted my head and reached out a single gloved finger, touching the smooth, cool side of the lamp base. A faint vibration hummed against my fingertip. Alive. Silent, balanced, and ready, I drew my hand back into guard.
