The Turning Sphere
The dark expanse of the study stretched out far below, but right beside the heavy encyclopedias stood a miniature brass-mounted desktop globe. Anchoring my boots firmly against the polished mahogany shelf, I reached forward and gripped the curved metal meridian to stabilize the mount. Leaning into the frame, I pressed both gloves along the equatorial seam and gave the sphere a firm, measured shove. It drifted into a smooth, silent rotation under the dim room light, spinning continents and dark blue oceans past my visor in a steady orbit. High-altitude planetary tracking is fully operational.
