A Firm Balance
The stillness lifted. I took a measured breath and tested my balance, feeling the firm polish of the desk beneath my boots. To my left lay a black keyboard. Moving with deliberate care, I extended my right hand and pressed the edge of the nearest key. A subtle, tactile click resonated under my fingertip. The resistance was clean and predictable. Having verified my weight and range of motion, I withdrew my hand and smoothed the line of my coat, perfectly composed.
