A Circular Beam
I stepped off the soft quilt and padded onto the smooth wooden surface of the bedside stand. Beside a folded book, a small bedside lamp clicked on, casting a neat circle of amber light. I paused, crouching low to watch dust motes drift slowly across the golden ring. After a quiet breath, I stretched out one front paw and rested it right along the border where light turned into shadow. The wood beneath felt steady, dry, and faintly warm.
