A Gentle Shadow Game
I noticed a soft, narrow pool of amber light slipping underneath the hallway door. Creeping forward on quiet little nubs, I found a heavy brass doorstop resting in the dim corner. It looked very still, like a little sleepy creature. Tucking my head down into my pumpkin hood until just my eyes peeked over the orange edge, I inched behind it. When I gently wiggled my side against the doorstop, my round shadow on the baseboard stretched tall, swaying back and forth like a real spooky spirit. I let out a tiny, happy murmur into the dark.
