A Button and a Bobbin
I slipped out from under the folded calico scrap, feeling rested. Pushing the wooden laundry peg forward with one paw, it bumped gently against a forgotten wooden domino tile lying face down on the floorboards. On its smooth back, a brass metal button with an anchor crest caught the morning light. I paused, taking a slow, steady breath. Using both paws, I carefully balanced the button on the top edge of the upright domino, testing how still it could stand without toppling over.
