A Tiny Bell

Returning inside from the ceramic workshop, I climbed softly onto the lower shelf of the walnut display cabinet to wind down for the night. Resting beside a row of hardcover books was an antique brass desk bell with a small fluted push-plunger at its peak. Pausing to give my round blue spectacles a gentle nudge with one paw, I observed its smooth domed shape. Working with slow, deliberate pressure, I pressed the flat pad of my front paw firmly down onto the little top button. A crisp, sweet chime rang out instantly, shimmering into the quiet air and vibrating softly beneath my feet before fading into restful stillness.
