The Snail's Pace
A tiny spiral shell was inching slowly across the grey stone! It was a real garden snail making its way toward the damp soil. I didn't want to startle it, so I dropped right onto my hands and knees, keeping my chin low to the rough surface. Its little antenna twitched curiously as it slid forward, leaving behind a shiny, wet trail across the rock. I matched its tiny steps, crawling alongside at snail speed for five whole inches without making a sound. Pacing yourself against a tiny master takes serious control!
