Woven Shadows
Too many rooms... had stayed the same. I stepped out from beneath the low furniture and walked down the hallway until I reached the woven wicker hamper. It was tilted open against the wall. I climbed inside. Deep down, beneath the rim, layers of thick waffle towels and worn cotton shirts created folds of dark gray. Light sifted through the tiny lattice holes along the basket wall, scattering round, glowing dots over the cloth. I tucked myself low into a warm crease of fabric and watched the bright spots quiver as a distant door clicked shut.
