A Soft Landing
I withdrew through the screen door as darkness set in, leaving the balcony winds outside. Moving across the living room carpet, I scaled the arm of the deep woven sofa to scout a defensible nighttime base. Tucked behind a heavy knit cushion, I discovered an unspooled ball of coarse gray wool yarn. Instead of cutting through it, I aligned my boots against the plush upholstery, gripped the loose fiber tail, and wound three taut loops around the cushion's corner button. It created a firm elevated resting sling above the floor. My blades are sheathed, and the indoor post is fully secured.
