A Smooth River Pebble

I climbed out of the leather boot and slipped past the front door while it was propped open for fresh air. Trotting down the quiet sidewalk, I headed into the little neighborhood park to stretch my legs. Along the curve of a raised flowerbed, several smooth grey pebbles lay scattered across the sunny red brick path. One flat oval stone caught my eye because it looked just like a scoop of minted ice cream. Crouching low, I used both hands to nudge it across the seam of two bricks until it slotted securely into a tiny hollow between two mossy cobblestones, giving me a sturdy, sun-warmed little resting perch.
