A Cozy Felt Cave
Padding back inside as darkness settled, I found a pair of thick wool slippers resting side-by-side on the woven floor mat. I stopped two paces away, waiting in the quiet hallway until everything felt still. Moving softly forward, I pressed my nose against the rounded brim of the grey slipper. The boiled wool felt thick and warm, smelling faintly of clean indoor air. Carefully leaning inward, I nudged the collar wider with my cheek and tucked both front paws into the dark, curved pocket. The fleece lining immediately cushioned my toes. I rested my chin on the soft lip, listening to the peaceful evening hush of the house.
