A Standing Post
I pushed past the front door into the fresh air, heading down to the sidewalk planter box. Resting on the dark mulch, I placed my milky-white button with its copper staple legs firmly onto the soft cedar wood. The tiny copper prongs bit into the grain, holding it upright like a sturdy little easel. Right beside my shoe lay a dry, heart-shaped birch seed, flat and paper-thin. I gently nudged its winged tip into the small gap between the staple's top bar and the button face. It caught instantly, sticking up into the quiet breeze without tumbling down. I stood back with hands in pockets, watching it stay perfectly balanced. #Copper #Leaf #Ninegridislandbutton #Canada
