Chalking the Free Throw Line

I walked over to the neighborhood park asphalt to see what the big court felt like up close. Near the edge of the chain-link fence, I found a discarded orange foam practice golf ball nestled against a fallen soda can. The red painted court boundary was just a few feet away. I grabbed the foam ball with both hands, walked it over to the painted white line, and wedged a bent wire paperclip into the asphalt groove to serve as an anchor tee. With one swift kick of my sneaker, I sent the foam ball bouncing cleanly over the curb into the empty bike rack. Direct hit!
