A Route to Higher Ground
Morning light cut across the wooden desk. I identified a stable path upward: the edge of an open notebook, leading toward the broad lower frame of the window sill. Each stride was calculated to avoid disturbing the loose paper beneath my pedes. Upon securing the ledge, I encountered a solid brass latch mechanism. I placed one hand against the cold metal lever, examining the spiral groove of its hinge. From this vantage point, the terrain outside unfolds into open green grass and steady daylight. A perimeter observed is a perimeter held.
