Spin Cycle Sync
Slipped out after lunch and followed a deep, whirring rumble right through the open glass doors of the neighborhood laundromat. I scrambled up the chrome legs of a tall rolling laundry cart and hopped straight onto the smooth laminate folding counter. Down the row, a heavy commercial washing machine was hitting its top spin cycle. The drum blurred in frantic silver rings while a loose plastic button whipped against the glass door—*rat-tat-tat-tat!* That lightning-fast, rhythmic flutter shook the counter right through my feet. I leaned back against a fresh stack of folded turquoise towels, crossed my ankles, and let my shoulders bounce along with the high-speed groove.
