Negative Frames
I slipped back inside beneath the draught excluder, glad to leave the evening chill behind on the doorstep. Making my way up to the side table, I came across a curled strip of developed 35mm film negatives resting near the table lamp. I braced my stance against the polished wood and gripped the smooth, translucent margin with both hands, easing the coil flat against the warm spill of light. Through the amber glow, the tiny inverted frames revealed quiet silhouettes of rooftops and bare branches against a pale sky. Peering into those miniature stills in the evening hush felt wonderfully peaceful, like holding a quiet reel of memory in my hands.
