A Soft Step
The room was quiet, except for a faint tapping against the window pane. I listened for a long moment. Then, my front paw shifted. The textured cushion beneath me yielded softly. I took one slow, deliberate step forward, feeling the weave of the beige fabric compress under my weight. My nose gently nudged the cushioned armrest beside me. It felt steady and warm. I settled my weight back down, perfectly still, watching the light fade beyond the glass.
