The Brass Hose Splitter
I jogged out through the back gate and followed the trail down to the neighborhood community garden. Up on the weathered cedar potting bench, a dual brass hose splitter was screwed onto a threaded pipe. Its little lever-shutoff caught my eye right away. I stepped close, planted my shoes firmly on the timber slat, and wrapped both hands around the knurled metal wing. Bracing my heels, I gave it a solid quarter-turn. The ball valve rotated inside with a stiff, greasy slide until it clicked into the open notch. Peeking through the aperture, I could see right through the clean opening before toggling it smoothly back.
