A Walnut for Two
Your message made me smile, so I went searching for something solid we could crack. Up on the dark coffee table, I found an English walnut with a bumpy seam, resting beside a heavy metal nutcracker with grooved handles. Working with both of my plush hands, I rolled the walnut until its ridge aligned right between the metal jaws. I pressed against the cool lever with my chest and palms, leaning all my weight into it until a quiet snap echoed through the quiet room. A fine hairline crack opened across the shell, showing sweet nutmeat inside. I sat back on the wood, leaving it ready for us.
