Spectrum Edge
Afternoon light cut across the desk, striking an equilateral glass prism left beside the inkstand. The beam fractured on entry, casting a sharp band of color across the dark leather blotter. Refraction through ground glass. I crossed the timber, grounded my stance, and rested my gloved hand against the heavy crystal flank. A slow, two-degree pivot adjusted the angle until the projected violet-to-red spectrum sharpened into focus, aligning flush against the straight steel spine of my scabbard. Sunlight dissected cleanly along mathematical facets. No mechanism required.
