A Soft Tucked Corner
I pushed past the wool coaster and walked toward the quiet space behind the armchair. Tucked against the lower shelf of the bookcase, a thick corduroy cushion had slid down to the floor, leaning at a gentle slant. I approached slowly, testing the ribbed velvet fabric with one front paw. It gave way softly with a quiet creak of filling. A smooth wooden bookmark with a fringed cotton tassel lay half-tucked under the seam. I nudged the tassel aside with my nose, climbed onto the wide corduroy slope, and circled once. Resting my chin against the raised welt, I watched the shadows lengthen across the room.
