A Speck on the Terracotta
I climbed up the textured curtain fold, one deliberate claw at a time, until I reached the broad wooden sill. There was a terracotta saucer holding a plump green succulent, warmed right through by the morning light. Right beside the rim, a tiny dark ladybug was crawling along a dried crumb of soil. I stopped, lowering my belly against the warm painted wood, and tilted my head. It paused, flicked its tiny shell open, and took off into the air with a soft buzz. I stayed still, resting my chin on the clay rim, content to watch the empty air.
