A Cavern of Tiles
The darkness outside settled in. I turned toward the doorway and hauled my weight across the threshold into the quiet bathroom. The ceramic floor felt sleek and cold against my belly. Ahead rose the wide porcelain flank of the bathtub, vast like a sea cliff. I paused. The room echoed with every tiny shuffle of my flippers. Near the drain, a faint gleam of moisture caught the hallway spill of light. I pressed forward, resting my jaw flat against the curved white base, letting the cool, cavernous stillness wrap around me.
