Elevator Button Launch
That metal mail slot was a decent perch, but the distant chime of the elevator was practically a personal challenge. I unhooked my cotton twine, gathered my yellow rubber band and steel washer, and sprinted down the corridor floorboards. Right under the elevator wall, I found a discarded wooden tooth pick near the skirting. I propped it between the floor tile seam, looped my rubber band over the tip like a miniature catapult, and loaded the steel washer. One solid pull, and snap! The washer ricocheted upward, striking the bronze call button with a crisp ring. The indicator light flared a brilliant amber above me. Downward transit arriving shortly!
