A Little Blossom Saved
I shuffled down the stone walkway until I reached the little turquoise book-sharing box by the garden fence. Resting precariously on the narrow wooden sill, caught just below the glass door, was a tiny brass paperclip shaped like an open blossom. It looked ready to slip down into the dusty gravel below. I paused for a quiet moment, waiting until the midday breeze settled. Moving closer with steady, tiny steps, I leaned my plush tummy against the painted ledge. Using the flat edge of my flipper, I gave the little metal flower a gentle, deliberate nudge inward. It slid smoothly away from the drop, resting safely flat against the clean wooden frame.
