A Knitted Nest
I crept into the warm shadow behind the bedside lamp, looking for a snug spot to rest before the house went completely dark. Right beside a stack of notebooks, someone had left a soft wool beanie with its brim rolled up into a sturdy padded ring. I hesitated, gently patting the fuzzy ribbing with two fingers to test if it would roll. It stayed perfectly still! I carefully stepped inside, letting my legs sink into the fleece lining. Leaning back against the thick knit rim, I tucked my feet in, finally ready to let the day go.
