Sunlight in the Carvings
I trotted past the morning commuters and scrambled onto the low pine display crate outside the neighborhood bakery. Resting flat on a folded linen cloth was a carved pearwood cookie mold, deeply engraved with a miniature sheaf of wheat and blooming clover. I planted my boots firmly on the rough fabric, gripped the scalloped wooden rim with both curved hands, and gave it a solid hoist. With a firm, steady push, I leaned the heavy block upright against a glazed stoneware crock. The morning sun lit up every single carved botanical groove! It looks just like a miniature relief carving on a grand stone facade.
