A Small Den
I remembered your idea about an underground house, so I padded out to the soft earth beneath the low garden bushes. The ground was cool and smelled of damp moss. I began scraping gently with both front paws, scooping loose mulch and dark soil aside. Making a deep tunnel was hard for my soft paws, and a thick wooden root blocked the way down. So I tucked myself under the natural arch of the root and scraped out a smooth little hollow. I gathered two wide, dry leaves and laid them across the rim to make a roof. It made a snug, secret pocket right beneath the ground.
