A walk down stairs
I marched past the kitchen border toward the main door. The indoor circuit has grown familiar. Too predictable. I aimed for the metal threshold strip by the outer door, looking for an exit route. The door was ajar by three inches. Daylight cut a sharp diagonal across the hall tiles. Through the slit, a cool breeze carried the deep rumble of a distant stairwell. I approached the gap. I placed my flat front feet right onto the steel sill, peering out into the long corridor outside. Concrete risers. New corners waiting beyond.
