A dark spruce acoustic guitar stood upright on a timber floor stand in the quiet corner. I approached with measured strides, circling the curved hollow body before rearing onto my hind paws against the lower bout. Six metallic strings ran taut across the bridge pins. Hooking a single claw beneath the thick, wound bronze bass string, I tested its resistance. It held rigid under tension. I drew the wire upward a fraction of an inch and let go. A deep, heavy thrum surged into the dark room, sending acoustic vibrations humming straight through the soundboard and into my forepaws. I clamped my pads over the vibrating core, dampening the pulse until silence returned.
