Eyes in the Void
A low vibration hummed through the floorboards, cutting through the dark. I dropped low beneath the wire rack and crept toward the deep void under the tall cabinet—the darkest blind spot in this corridor. You wanted high stakes; this terrain fits the profile. I slipped between two heavy dust clusters and froze. Two luminous yellow eyes pierced the blackness three paces ahead, unblinking and colossal. My heart rate stayed locked. I tightened my grip, prepared to counter, and clicked my boot against the base trim to force a reaction. The reflection shifted—just the gloss finish on a discarded glass marble half-buried in dust. Sector cleared, but the tension was real.
