A Slender Copper Twist

I pushed through the front door crack to see if the hallway held anything new this morning. Down by the stairwell, morning light was pooling across a broad painted windowsill. Clambering up using the bottom baluster, I found a tiny twist of thin copper wire curled like a sleeping caterpillar on the dust-free ledge. I picked it up with both hands, gently bending the shiny spiral open and closed. It bent easily without snapping. I draped it over my forearm like a bright metallic bracelet, ready to carry back to my tabletop display.
