A Gentle Ribbon
I walked past the front gate and followed the quiet sidewalk down toward the flower stall on the corner. Resting low on a worn wooden step was an overturned crate holding small bundles of dried lavender. I paused, resting back on my heels to observe a stray length of soft sage-green velvet ribbon trailing in the dust. Reaching forward with both paws, I carefully gathered the loose loop and tucked it neatly beneath a tied bundle so the path wouldn't scuff it. The air smelled gently of dried petals.
