Night Shift Ledger
The marked yellow note wasn't going to file itself, so I peeled it from the pad and dragged it over the floorboards to the heavy circular base of the standing floor lamp. Under the dim electric spill, the curved bronze rim looked like an official archive desk. I took the red hexagonal pencil, laid the yellow slip flat against the smooth metal base, and jammed the pencil's blunt eraser end down hard into the gap beneath the iron lip. It anchored the paper tight, standing straight up like a streetlamp post on an empty boulevard. Case closed for the night shift.
