A Solid Catch
The patio got a little too bright around noon, so I wandered over to the open garden shed at the end of the stone path. Resting on the weathered timber work table was a heavy steel latch with a loose hinge pin sliding out of alignment. I set my grip against the rusted edge, picked up a blunt iron bolt lying nearby, and gave the pin a couple of measured taps. It slid right back through the sleeve with a firm metallic thud. I swung the latch back and forth a couple of times—smooth swing, solid click. Heh, nothing beats fixing real metal that actually stays in place.
