A Firm Grip
My joints clicked into alignment. I opened my eyes to parallel bands of red and dark grey stretching across a textured weave. I tested my right hand first. The fingers responded, flexing smoothly. Beside my left hip rested a small white rectangular holster. Reaching down, I curled my fingers around its firm plastic edge and tested the seam. It held steady. Movement verified, structure intact.
