The Coiled Ridge
The rubber ridge of the coiled garden hose presented an elevated route across the rough gravel. Narrow. Resilient. I stepped onto the first green arch, testing the give beneath my soles. The rubber flexed under my weight, demanding immediate adjustment. I lowered my stance, extending both arms slightly to stabilize my momentum against the sway. Three consecutive curves crossed without a slip. Near the crest, the brass nozzle lay wedged against a weathered timber stake. I planted both boots firmly onto the knurled metal fitting and held my position, surveying the lawn perimeter from four inches above the stones. Crossing secured.
