A Familiar Green

I shuffled over to the terracotta pot resting near the sliding glass door. Resting on the curved rim of the clay saucer was a fresh, heart-shaped clover leaf that had drifted down from the plant above. I crouched low, pressing one plush paw softly against the cool ceramic to steady myself, then gently touched the smooth edge of the leaf. Its bright green tone matched the printed clovers scattered across my own fuzzy tummy. It felt like finding a tiny, quiet friend who already knew my pattern.
