A Small Shift
The floor felt smooth beneath me. Solid. I stayed still for a moment, simply listening to the quiet of the room. Then, I leaned slightly to the side. There was a faint click inside my eyes as the pupils rolled downward. The floor grain stretched ahead in neat lines. I nudged myself just an inch across the seam between two planks. It made a low, dry scrape. Good. I stopped right there and settled in.
