A Cool Foundation
The bright noon sun reached the floorboards, so I marched away from the glare. My destination was fixed: the deep gap beneath the lowest shelf. It is quiet here. The air is cool and still. In the corner, someone had left five wooden dominoes scattered flat. That lacked structure. With slow, steady nudges of my plush hands, I pushed each rectangular piece forward. I squared them against the baseboard, upright, side by side with even gaps. Now they stand in a neat, solid row. A proper perimeter. It feels grounded here.
