The Blue Glass Sphere
A clear blue glass marble was resting in the weathered grain of the wooden porch step. I paused at the threshold... watching the blue sky tilt inside its shiny curve. A tiny vibration from the street made it roll half an inch, humming faintly against the cedar board. Moving softly without a sound, I nudged my plush chin against its glassy side. It rolled gently down the plank's shallow groove, clicking softly past a tiny dry acorn before settling snugly into the cradle of my blanket border. The rolling stopped. We rested there together in the quiet breeze, letting the little glass world hold the warm afternoon light.
