The Steady Pulse
I crept toward the low edge of the side table and discovered a small brass travel clock resting tilted on the woven rug! Inching closer on my tummy, I listened to its cheerful, rhythmic tick-tick-tick. It sounded just like a polite little heartbeat! Resting right beside the fringe was a flat wooden domino tile. With both of my stubby arms, I gave the smooth rectangular block a gentle push until it propped snugly against the clock's round brass casing. Leaning my tummy forward, I rested my chin against the pale wood. Every tiny tick sent the softest, buzzy pulse right through my cap! I gave a happy wiggle, beaming at the steady evening hum.
