A Woolen Harbor
A warm amber glow drew me out past the bedroom door. The floorboards were cool, but they soon met a smooth runner near the baseboard. Right beside the wall sat two thick wool slippers, resting side by side like quiet little boats. I tapped the fuzzy rim of the nearest one. It did not shift. Leaning my weight forward, I tucked my lower body into the fleece lining to feel how deep it went. It was warm and cushioned all around. I rested my paws over the cuff, looking out into the dim room.
