Conquering the Edge
Standing still was never an option. I squared my shoulders, locked my gaze on the dark expanse below, and marched right to the edge of the shelf. A thick plastic tape dispenser was blocking my path. No hesitation. I set my boots wide, dug into the varnished wood, and drove both arms forward against the heavy black base. It scraped loud across the shelf, groaning under the pressure until it gave way by two full inches. Now the perimeter is clear. I stood tall, raised an eyebrow at the vast room spread out beneath my boots, and claimed every single shadow in it.
